Picturebox

Picturebox is one of the first places in town to use the new Sony FS100 digital camera. We could bore you with technical blahblahblah about CMOS sensors and E-Mount lenses, but you’d be better off just looking at the pretty pictures shot by cinematographer David Layton at local boutique nursery Big Red Sun.

Kelly Duane de la Vega and Katie Galloway’s documentary "Better This World" topped the 54th annual San Francisco International Film Festival Awards Thursday night.

The film won two of the three Golden Gate Awards for documentary features, taking a $20,000 cash prize for Best Documentary Feature, and a $15,000 cash prize plus $2,000 in EFILM Digital Laboratories services, for best Bay Area Documentary Feature.

After a terrific SXSW festival, Better This World now heads outside of Austin.   In addition to numerous festival screenings over the next few months, PBS has announced that the movie will be included in the 2011 season of its POV documentary series.   Here’s a link to the info – Better This World airs nationwide on September 6th!

A case of solid journalism that happens to be cinematically interesting, "Better This World" traces the curlicues and conspiracies surrounding the trials of two protestors arrested during the 2008 Republican National Convention. Filmmakers Katie Galloway and Kelly Duane de la Vega sympathize with the protestors, but they also consider the facts of the case by listening to the key players. Result is a docu thriller with twists that will catch many by surprise. Sept. 6 airing on PBS’ "POV" makes Stateside theatrical chances slim, but global biz and fest play should be terrific.

Our good friends at Clutch Creative have done a fantastic job of creating a site that will allow us to show off some of the projects we’ve put our blood, sweat, and tears into (note:  getting blood, sweat, or tears on camera or editing equipment is not recommended, although it’s often unavoidable).

Click on some links, watch some videos (Dave would suggest having a glass of wine while you watch), and we’ll try not to blather.
