Yep, it’s a new web site.

Rule #1 of web sites:  You can’t have a web site redesign without a blog post talking about it.

So here we are! Welcome to the new Picturebox. Our good friends at Clutch Creative have done a fantastic job of creating a site that will allow us to show off some of the projects we’ve put our blood, sweat, and tears into (note:  getting blood, sweat, or tears on camera or editing equipment is not recommended, although it’s often unavoidable).

Click on some links, watch some videos (Dave would suggest having a glass of wine while you watch), and we’ll try not to blather.

At 5pm that same day we’ll be hosting a happy hour to celebrate the premiere at Cheer Up Charlie’s, 1104 East 6th Street.    Come get sloppy drunk with us!

Sleep Study,’ the hilarious short-film by our friends Kerri Lendo and John Merriman just won the Audience Award at the 2010 Austin Film Festival. Picturebox produced the film, and Kevin even has a small role.

Picturebox has winning political season

Picturebox Productions has winning political season

The Picturebo gangSince Austin is the state capital, it makes sense that the gang at Picturebox Productions counts a slew of political ads, including the production of 15 Spanish-language spots for the Obama campaign, among its recent credits.

“That was a big deal for us because they aired nationally,” says David Layton, a partner in the 10-year-old company. Picturebox also did spot work for Texas representatives, senators, judges, and more as well as projects for the Democratic National Committee. Industrials for several Texas businesses, including KCI, a medical company, and AMD, a computer chip manufacturer, round out the mix.

Today, Layton has the company’s eye set on breaking into the documentary market. “We’re developing a show along the lines of Frontline,” he notes. Its first segment, Through a Glass, Darkly, shows how Texas has mishandled forensic evidence in recent years.

“We’re working toward creating and selling shows to cable and PBS, to open a new revenue stream,” he says. “Business was great last year due to political work, and has been [great] so far this year. We’re lucky, but who knows how long it will last?”

Picturebox often shoots with its Panasonic DVCPro HD HPX500 camera; it also owns two HVX200s, all with P2 cards, and a Canon XLH1. Editing is done on a Final Cut Pro HD system.
